About Our Vineyards...
We carefully select all of the vineyards that we work with. We believe all the varieties that we vinify perform at their best in cooler higher elevation vineyard sites. Where crop levels are low and the growing season long. The Single Vineyard PhilosophyAt Tallulah we are fascinated with the manner in which certain factors such as soil composition, microclimate, and geographic location affect the flavor profile of a wine. The unique combination of these factors in one vineyard is what we commonly refer to as "terroir." Because we work mainly with one grape, it is all the more fascinating for us to create single vineyard wines. People who are not totally familiar with Syrah are often amazed to taste our three different Syrahs side by side. They find it hard to believe that these wines are the same grape, same year, same essential winemaking techniques. The difference is all in the vineyard. We have nothing against blended wines, we now produce a Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre based blend. But it is still a single vineyard wine. We believe that when all of your fruit is sourced from vineyards that are truly extraordinary and located in such vastly different growing regions, single vineyard is the only way to go. This enables us to show off the character of our vineyards and for you to get to know them. Year after year, these wines start to display some of the same aromas and flavors, the "personality" of that vineyard, even while they carry the distinguishing marks of the particular vintage. "You make good wine in the vineyards, not the cellar. The vinegrower constructs the quality and the winemaker converts it." -Michel Chapoutier, M. Chapoutier, Hermitage
